Self Support Roofing

Self support roofs differ from rafter supported ones in that a self-support roof system does not require a wooden framework of rafters. The glazing bars do not need the wooden rafters to support them. They have a heavy-duty aluminium core that gives them the structural strength needed for the glass or polycarbonate roofing materials.

The Glazing shop has a complete Self Support Roof System with all the parts you need for building a lean to roof. The system is high quality and is engineered to be easy to install. This self supporting roof is perfect for a wide range of applications including conservatory roofs and canopy roofs. The glazing bars accommodate a 16mm, 25mm, 32mm and 35mm multiwall Polycarbonate Sheets, and 16mm and 24mm Glass units.

This system contains all the elements required for a complete self-supporting Lean To roof including:

A - Wall Plate B -  Eaves Beam  C - Self support main glazing bars  D -  End glazing bars E - PVC sheet closures for the ends of your glazing sheets

• End Glazing bars – for the left and right edges of your self supporting roof. These bars have an adjustable PVC adapter to neatly cloak of the edges of your roof.
• Main glazing bars – to support in between the sheets of your roof glazing
• Wall plate – for fixing the high end of your self-support roof to the wall. This has an integral flashing and is designed specifically for use with the system’s glazing bars.
• Choice of eaves beams – The ‘system eaves beam’ is used when structural support is already under it e.g. in a conservatory where the window frames would fit beneath. The eaves beam is also designed specifically for use with the system glazing bars.
• Alternatively choose the ‘aluminium eaves beam’ to give independent e.g. for a canopy or open structure – please check the spanning capabilities.

This system has everything you need for a high-end finish for a polycarbonate or glass self-supporting roof.  All parts of the self support roofing system are available in a wide range of colours including White, Brown, Anthracite Grey, Black, Rosewood and Light Oak.

You need to consider the strength needed in your self supporting glazing bars when you are building a Self-support roof as you cannot rely upon wooden rafters to provide any structural strength. Details of spans and centres can be found on our self support glazing bars page.
