Uses of The Sunwood 50mm wide Rafter Bar
The 50mm wide Sunwood Aluminium Capped Glazing bars are perfectly suited for use in all glass roofs. This is the case for single skinned glass to double glazed units. They are also suited to other roofing sheets. This includes solid polycarbonate and all thicknesses of multi-wall polycarbonate. Visually the bar is stylish and has a sleek low profile. It also has neat rounded screw concealment caps. This makes it a perfect choice for high end, high quality roofs. A very popular choice for timber conservatory roofs. This timber rafter bar is perfect for orangeries and atriums. This screw down rafter glazing bar is also an excellent choice if you want to refurbish or waterproof an existing wooden conservatory roof.
Simply use an Aluminium F section in the outside of the standard bar to create an end bar. This will balance the bar and neatly cloak of the end of the roof. This F section can also be placed in the edge of the bar with the prong facing upwards if the roof is against a wall, and you want to flash over it.
Options
These aluminium capped rafter bars are available in two widths of 50mm and 60mm. Choose the best width to suit the width of your wooden rafters. Both are suitable for all glazing thicknesses. The screw down design gives you a robust solution ideal for use in coastal or other exposed locations. Available in white and brown here but also in anthracite grey or mill. The bars are also available in mill finish so they can be powder coated to other RAL shades at additional cost.
Fitting
These rafter bars are very easy to fit. They also come complete with all of the gaskets you will require and screws. To install simply sit the base gasket straight onto your timber rafter. Your chosen glazing sits on top of this on either side. At the start and end of your roof insert your Aluminium F section into the outside part of the bar to balance it up.
Next the aluminium top cap is firmly screwed down between the glazing sheets using the central groove as a guide. This ensures a good central fixing through to your rafter. The top cap itself has two gaskets that sit atop the glazing giving a watertight seal.
There is a pre-cast tab on the back of the bar end cap which fits neatly into the central channel on the bar top cap. This has a pre-drilled hole to accommodate the countersunk screw which is included with the end cap. Finally the screw concealment profile is then ‘clipped in.’ This will complete the smooth, sleek look.
